My Training and Experience

I received my PhD in 1978 from Oklahoma State University. The Clinical Psychology program there is accredited by the American Psychological Association for training in Psychology.  I completed a year long internship at Springfield Hospital Center, Sykesville, MD and Sheppard-Pratt Hospital, Towson, MD. at that same time.  The internship was also accredited by the American Psychological Association. From 1978 to 1979 I served on the staff at Springfield Hospital Center. I obtained my license as a Psychologist in Maryland in 1979.  From 1979 to 1983 I served on the staff at the Brook Lane Psychiatric Center in Hagerstown, MD.  In 1981, concurrent with my service at Brook Lane, I began private practice in Frederick, Maryland with Psychotherapy Services, LLC , where I continued until 2001.  During the years of practice in Frederick I had the opportunity to assist Hood College in their Counseling Center and to serve on the staff of Johns Hopkins University Medical School's Department of Psychiatry and Epidemiology where I served for 5 years as a member of a research team seeking possible genetic links for serious psychiatric disorders.

I obtained my license as a Psychologist in Florida in 2000. In 2001, my wife and I relocated to Naples, Florida, where I maintained a solo practice, Keith T Foster, PhD PA , for 11 years. While there I taught courses at Florida Gulf Coast University and served on the staff at Naples Community Hospital.  I also provided a community service semi-annually to a wonderful organization, the Alzheimer's Support Network, where I led an "Early Stage Group", an 8 session group for couples where one was newly diagnosed with dementia in which we addressed practical and emotional issues typically encountered by an individual with dementia and their caregiver during the progression of the illness.

In 2011 my wife and I decided to return to Maryland to be closer to our growing family. Between January and May 2012 I gradually closed my Florida practice and developed my Maryland practice. As of June 1, 2012 I work exclusively in Maryland.

Maintaining a professional license in Psychology requires ongoing continuing education, as does my certification as a Family Mediator and Parent Coordinator.  To that end, I have, over the past 30 years, acquired an extensive amount of training in individual therapy, couples counseling, psychological evaluation, conflict management, developmental theory, issues of aging, dementia treatment, and mediation technique. I have a professional responsibility to be well informed and well trained to best serve your therapeutic needs.

I maintain a home in Annapolis with my wife and two Golden Retrievers. We enjoy boating, golf, and just being around the water, as well as visits with our children and grandchildren. We have four adult daughters, three of whom are married with children.
